The History Of The New York Marathon

April 24th, 2010    Subscribe To Our Feed

Running has been going on through the ages dating back to some early Olympic games. Marathon running began with a small number of men who pushed the limits of endurance wearing just a simple pair of mens running trainers, for the curious onlookers who wanted to see what those limits were. It was not viewed as a sport so much as a freak show. The history of the New York Marathon brought this type of running into the spotlight and the popularity continues to grow.

Marathon running had humble beginnings, but thanks to the New York Marathon, it has become a world-class sport with wide media coverage. Although marathons are run all over the world, none are as prominent as New York’s and many have been modeled after it. The New York marathon attracts thousands of athletes and many more spectators to cheer them on through the course.

The first race in the history of the New York Marathon was run in 1970 with a mere one hundred twenty seven participants. The co-founder of the race redesigned the course and the number of participants began to grow. With this new course came more spectators, media coverage and of course more runners.

Unique to the New York Marathon was the community spirit and the draw of the media, which began to intrigue world-class athletes. By the late 1970’s, New York was the main attraction when it came to marathons. Men and women alike from all over the world wanted to be part of this wonderful event.

The history of the New York Marathon has been an important aspect of the modern marathons that are run today and the main requirement is still just a good pair of mens trainers. Marathons are continuing to evolve and in 2000, New York introduced an official wheelchair marathon. This particular type of marathon has become very popular and New York’s is the most competitive in the world.

Interview With An Abs Expert Part 1: Surprise Abs Training Mistakes To Avoid

June 1st, 2008    Subscribe To Our Feed

Abs exercisesI feel so bad for abandoning this stomach exercise blog for so long. I’ve been busy with work that I didn’t even have time to update this blog, nor do I even have time to do my own stomach exercises. Shame on me, I know. No wonder most people don’t do their abs exercises because they simply don’t have the time to do it. Though I’m not on their side on this but I’m experiencing this excuse first hand when I’m swamped with work.

To make it up for it, I have an interview conducted by Men’s Health Magazine writer Craig Ballantyne of Turbulence Training who grilled the Abs expert Mike Geary, who is the author the internationally popular book, The Truth About Abs on the topic of abs training and the biggest myths and mistakes he sees in this field.

Before that, a few days ago, a friend of mine recommended me Mike’s book. To my surprise it’s totally different to what I’ve been blogging about in this blog, different to all the stomach exercises that I’ve been telling you all this while. It’s different from all those other abs expert been telling you about. And there I was thinking that I’m an abs expert. To make myself clear, I’m not saying that my methods don’t work, I do know my methods work however for being in this field long enough I know that Mike’s methods really work and I can vouch for that. You’ll find out soon enough when you’re done reading the interview.

So, if you’ve been doing your abs training and achieve no results, this interview is a must read. This is the first half of the interview which they talked about the training aspects of it. In the next few days, I promise to send you the second half of the interview in which they covered on the nutrition aspects that we need to consider to get rid of that stomach fat and get that hidden abs to show.

Also, be sure to check out Mike’s site at:

Today, it’s gonna about exercising with an exercise ball. If you haven’t done exercise ball workouts before, you’re missing out one of the most fun exercises ever. I love doing exercise ball for my ab workouts as your body will use the ball as an anchor and therefore most of the energy spent will not solely come from your body. Hence, you don’t tire easily.

I know that some learn better by watching than reading. Though I don’t mind writing about it, I’m sure you’ll find this video very interesting. Read the rest of this entry »

Incorporating resistance bands into your exercise routine can certainly add an effective edge to it, stomach exercises included. There are several routines that include the use of this exercise equipment to workout your stomach muscles.

First of all, as you may already know, resistance bands come in many colours, and these colours indicate the level of difficulty or levels or resistance for example, red for difficult, yellow for medium and green for easy or little resistance. To begin with, you should choose a resistance level that is the most appropriate for you. You can easily move up when necessary. It is important to note that you should never overdo it by choosing the most difficult level, as this can lead to serious injury. And as always, with any workout routine, do consult with a professional before you begin, and always warm up adequately to avoid injury.
